Message from the Executive Director

On behalf of all of us at JCYC, it is my pleasure to be able to share with you our 2023-2024 Impact Report. During these tumultuous times, we are grateful to be able to provide a glimpse into the many ways that JCYC continues to uphold our values of compassion, community, cooperation, diversity, integrity, and vision.

In 2023, all of us at JCYC were incredibly honored to be recognized as one of the California Nonprofits of the Year. This honor was an amazing validation of our staff and board, both past and present, who have consistently demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the well-being of the children and youth we serve.

Today, JCYC remains committed to the organization’s legacy programs for the Japantown community. As an alumnus of these programs, I take tremendous pride in not only being able to offer the programs that once had such an impact on myself growing up, but also in seeing their continued evolution towards meeting the needs of today’s families.

I also take great pride in JCYC’s role as San Francisco’s primary provider of youth workforce services and in continuing to employ over 3,000 young people each year. Through collaborations, we have helped bring resources into neighborhoods throughout San Francisco with partners who share our collective belief that so much more can be accomplished by working together.

We were also pleased to be able to host the first-ever Excellence in Education Awards celebration in support of JCYC’s College Access programs. As the inequities in America persist and widen, JCYC remains committed to lifting up not only the Japantown community, but also students who will become the first in their families to go to college.

JCYC is also incredibly pleased to continue to prioritize offering affordable, quality childcare for families in San Francisco. We believe every child should have an opportunity to learn and explore in a nurturing setting that is as physically beautiful as it is a place of amazing growth for all our children.

We have and always will believe in the limitless potential of young people. All that we do at JCYC reflects the values we will always uphold and, if necessary, defend in support of each child who needs and deserves the very best care we can provide.

Sincerely,
